Job Description:  

Patexia is a rapidly-growing, innovative Internet startup focused on advancing innovation and intellectual property research. We’re looking for electrical and computer engineers or computer scientists with an interest in applying their technical skills to in-depth patent and technical document analysis.

The case research department carries out all substantial in-house research for Patexia’s crowdsourced research platform. This includes performing initial patent and case analysis, preparing community research questions, reviewing results and pursuing leads, claim analysis, and compiling/authoring technical research reports for law firms and corporations. Patexia’s team is small and close-knit, rewarding initiative and independence with responsibility.

We perform research in a wide array of subjects--from simple consumer products to biotechnology to electronic circuits and beyond--so are learning about new innovations and new fields daily. This role is highly engaging but requires focus, intellectual flexibility, excellent English language skills, and deep analytical reasoning. We are located in downtown Santa Monica, only few short blocks from the beach.

Responsibilities:

  • Read and understand patents in different subject matters to identify the technical details of a wide variety of inventions

  • Design contests from complex inventions so they can be easily communicated

  • Manage multiple projects and their stakeholders including clients and community members

  • Author detailed reports clearly detailing and citing the results of your analysis

Skills and Personal Qualities:

  • A minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or another technical field (degree in electrical engineering or physics preferred)

  • Strong technical writing/communication abilities

  • Detail-oriented, analytical, philomathic

  • Positive mental attitude, fast learner

  • Ability to identify, define goals and deliver results

  • Excellent organization and time management
