State Cracks Down on Threatening Letters

The State of Vermont, acting under state consumer protection laws, has settled a lawsuit with Delaware based MPHJ Technology Investments LLC. MPHJ has been sending thousands of threatening letters nationwide demanding as much as $1,200 per employee from companies who scan documents to be emailed. The settlement limiting the firm's ability to threaten residents and businesses in Minnesota is believed to be the first of its kind.
