VIDEO - Gibbot brachiates from steel to steel

Northwestern University's Laboratory for Intelligent Mechanical Systems is at it again -- this time investigating a means of locomotion known as brachiation. Simply put, brachiation is a swinging motion, with precisely timed catching and releasing at the apex of a swing. In the video, you can se "Gibbot" in its  natural environment, making a few decisive swings across a sheet of metal. The foam padding near the start and finish hint that the robot's still has some learning to do...
