Bio
I am a Technical Information Specialist and Expert Patent Searcher. I help inventors to articulate and protect their inventions and patent attorneys to write better patents. I also have experience in knowledge management, in archiving and organization information generated within the company. I am looking to become a patent agent with technical expertise and searching capability by studying to take the patent bar within the next 6 months. I would like to find a position in which I can serve as a technical specialist and searcher until I pass the bar.
I have 20 years of experience in university and mid- to large-size corporate settings and extensive capability searching a variety of databases using text-based, patent-classification code-based, and structure-based searching methods. Exemplary databases include STN Express, STNext, New STN, DIALOG; Chemical Abstracts, Registry, MarPat, and Derwent World Patent Information; PatBase, Thomson Innovation, Questel, Web of Science and Scopus. I supported IP strategy with searches such as Patentability, Freedom to Operate, Infringement, Oppositions and IP landscapes as well as performed searching in support of multiple lawsuits.
My experience is in the chemicals and materials industries, with my last job being at Solvay. I worked in the areas of composites/carbon fibers, mining chemicals, phosphorus chemicals (including ionic liquids), battery materials, polymer additives, water treatment, adhesives and coatings. But one of the best parts of being a patent searcher is that I am constantly getting to learn about new technologies. I am looking forward to learning even more new technologies in my next job.
In my past jobs I have been able to exercise my passion for detail and precision. I have gotten to learn about a huge variety of projects and often faced new developments and challenges with each new project. I am able to converse with scientists about their projects in order to clarify their needs and what they are looking for. I am also able to relate to patent attorneys what I have found and how it might impact their patent strategy. I am able to experience the thrill of a successful hunt for that most important document to support R&D projects & make patents stronger and easier to defend. In my spare time, I enjoy photographing birds. This pastime also uses the eye for detail and ability to react quickly that have been useful in the professional world as well.
