Relationship between lifetime sun exposure and skin cancer risk

Exposure to high UV levels has been known to cause skin damage and skin cancer. Researchers from Queensland University of Technology conducted a study in which they found that cancer-causing skin damage and skin aging caused by UV exposure is most critical during the first 18 years of a person’s life, but continues throughout one's lifetime. However, those aged 50 and up are the least affected by UV level since results showed that skin damage decreases with age. The study was conducted by using a non-invasive UV camera to take images of skin damage and aging of one hundred and eighty people aged 18 to 83 years old, and the relationship between lifetime sun exposure and skin cancer risk was measured.
