VIDEO - Robopsy: Image-guided medical robotics

Robopsy, a robotic device to assist radiologists performing tumor biopsies was invented by an MIT team led by Rajiv Gupta. Developed with assistance from Boston’s Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT), robopsy will help radiologists perform soft tissue probe insertions with greater speed and accuracy, while reducing complications and physician strain. The device is a small, patent-pending, lightweight, inexpensive, tool which adheres directly to a patient inside at CT scanner. Guided by the radiologist in the control room, it remotely grips, orients and inserts a standard biopsy needle, or other probe, while permitting simultaneous imaging of the needle location.
