Biography
Worked 20+ years for Inter-Tel, Inc. in various capacities as an engineer, manager, and Intellectual Property executive until Inter-Tel was acquired by Mitel in 2007. At that time I took a position with Mitel's legal (Intellectual Property) department to help manage the combined Mitel/Inter-Tel patent portfolio and worked in that capacity until the end of 2008. I have owned a consulting business (NTP-IP Innovations,LLC) in the legal services industry since 2008 and am currently serving clients in the Phoenix metro area. My current activities involve helping startup groups, small companies, and medium-sized businesses build their patent portfolios by enabling ing them to turn their engineering ideas into a substantial Intellectual Property resource. This includes drafting patent disclosures, "patent mining" ideas with staff, compiling hits against competing products, rebutting assertions from competitors, and constructing rapid prototypes to verify either infringment or prove a design's functionality. Recent assignments have focused on assisting with the creation of development-related disclosures (in light of prior art searches) then acting as a liaison with legal firms to make sure that the resulting patent applications were completed and filed quickly. In several cases, we were able to make process improvements to make sure that future projects automatically include the proper Intellectual Property work activities in their work breakdown structures.
