Apple wins patent case, but Galaxy tab doesn't infringe

For anyone who missed the news, this summer's hottest patent infringement lawsuit ended on Friday with a jury decision largely in favor of Apple. Samsung's shares subsequently dropped 7.5 percent to begin this week of trading. This initial, somewhat knee-jerk, market reaction is sure to be the first of many fluctuations in the wake of the court's decision. The South Korean company now owes Apple $1.05 billion, but analysts are quick to note that this battle is one of many in patent wars that are only going to get worse before they get better. On the bright side for Samsung, the jury found that the Galaxy tablet, currently under an import injunction by Judge Koh's order, did not infringe on Apple's design patent. Samsung's lawyers have subsequently asked that the injunction be removed.
