FDA approves Medtronic's Professional continuous glucose monitoring system

Metronic announced today that their latest glucose monitoring system has received Federal Food and Drug Administration approval. The system, dubbed iPro®2 is a Professional continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system in a series of diabetic technology to come. iPro®2 provides analysis to healthcare providers on how different daily activities, medication, and food intake affect the levels of glucose in patients. The system can also provide data on hypo- and hyper- glycimia levels, which facilitates amendments to patient diets for better control of glucose levels. Levels are monitored by a sensor that can detect glucose levels through the patients skin; over a 24-hour period, the iPro®2 can make up to 288 readings.
