First firm order for fuel-efficient Boeing 737 MAX

Today, Boeing and Southwest Airlines announced a firm order for 150 fuel-efficient 737 MAX airplanes. Southwest is the first airline to finalize a 737 MAX order and will take delivery of the first 737 MAXs when they enter service in 2017. The 737 MAX’s new-engine variant, powered by CFM International LEAP-1B engines, reduces fuel burn and CO2 emissions by an additional 10-12 percent over today's most fuel-efficient single-aisle airplane. This order is the largest ever in Boeing’s history, both in dollar value (almost $19 billion) and the number of planes.
