VIDEO: Faster dental exams with Hitachi's 3D x-ray machine

In an effort to provide more accurate and detailed x-rays for dental hygienists, Hitachi has released a 3D x-ray machine called CB MercuRay. Capable of producing both 2D and 3D reconstruction images of teeth, the machine makes it easier for dentists to better understand the oral health of their patients. Conventional x-rays cannot provide an accurate reading of the depth of oral implants, often creating unsafe situations for patients who need oral surgery performed. The device uses low frequency cone shaped x-rays to produce 288 views of a patient’s teeth along with 360 degree viewing capability. The resulting images are displayed within 10 seconds of being captured, which will reduce the amount of time that is required for dental examinations. The high resolution of the images is something that Hitachi believes will also be a drawing point for this technology and help with its widespread use throughout the industry.
